HAVE YOU EVEN BEEN IN A BAR BRAWL?

Dave Klotz: Not yet.
Emily Cook: Yes, of course.

WHICH COULD YOU LIVE WITHOUT MORE READILY: TELEVISION OR HAIR CARE PRODUCTS?

Dave: Hair care products.
Emily: I can't live without Dawson's Creek.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SHAKESPEARE PLAY? IF IT'S ROMEO AND JULIET, BE HONEST -- WAS THAT THE ONLY ONE YOU COULD THINK OF OFF THE TOP OF YOUR HEAD?

Dave: Hamlet
Emily: Hamlet is the best - I love the Roman Polanski movie version of it.

WHAT SORT OF WORK MAKES YOU PROCRASTINATE?

Dave: All work.
Emily: I just quit my job recently, so all kinds of work. Now I'm my own boss, I cant be bothered to do anything... Everything is a trial.

HOW OLD WERE YOU THE FIRST TIME YOU USED THE PHRASE "BACK WHEN I WAS YOUR AGE..."?

Dave: Haven't used it yet.
Emily: I was 3.

WHICH WOULD YOU RATHER BE ABLE TO DO: BREATHE UNDERWATER INDEFINITELY, OR FLY? WHY?

Dave: I'd definitely like to be able to fly...it would save a lot of money on airfare. Plus, it'd be a great to fly into a venue with my guitar and land on stage (and) start playing.
Emily: Fly. Dull, but everyone has a "wow, wouldn't it be cool if you could like, fly" moment in their lives.

HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU SPEND ONLINE EACH WEEK?

Dave: Tons of time. I'm all for grocery shopping, printing postage stamps and ordering prescriptions, all the while sitting on my ass.
Emily: I surf the world wide web a couple of hours a day.

NAME THE MOST OVER-RATED BAND YOU CAN THINK OF.

Dave: The Rolling Stones.
Emily: Mr. Mister.

ARE YOU A DOG PERSON OR A CAT PERSON? IF NEITHER, WHAT SORT OF "PET PERSON" ARE YOU?

Dave: Dogs, especially dachshunds.
Emily: Dogs. Dogs DOGS. I love all dogs except those yappy little pomeranian fluff ball things.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE RECORD STORE?

Dave: I used to love Newbury Comics when I lived in Boston. They had a whole 7" section devoted to Sarah Records releases. No Life Records in Hollywood was my favorite until it closed.
Emily: HMV on Oxford Street in London/Record & Tape Exchange, Camden Town London.

COMPLETE THE STATEMENT: NOBODY KNOWS I...

Dave: ...own a copy of Shania Twain's last album.
Emily: ... am in love with James Van Der Beek.

NAME A MAGAZINE YOU WOULDN'T BE CAUGHT DEAD BUYING BUT WILL ALWAYS READ IF YOU FIND IT LYING AROUND.

Dave: I love it when I see a copy of People in the Dentist office waiting room.
Emily: I am a magazine junkie. I get all my information from magazines - I will buy the National Enquirer, People, US, Movieline, The Face - ANYTHING...
FILL IN THE BLANKS: AT THE ZOO, I SPEND THE MOST TIME WATCHING THE ___________, BECAUSE ___________.

Emily: Koala bears because I love Australia and everything to do with Australia, especially Yahoo Serious.

WHO WOULD WIN IN A FIGHT: C3PO OR THE ROBOT FROM LOST IN SPACE?

Dave: C3P0 would win in Academic decathlon, but Robot would do more physical damage.

WHAT IS THE SINGLE GREATEST INVENTION OF THE 20TH CENTURY?

Emily: I Can't Believe It's Not Butter.

IT'S 11:59 P.M. ON DECEMBER 31ST, 1999. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT?

Dave: I'm probably thinking that I hope the neighbors aren't going to be too loud tonight, 'cause I'll want to get some sleep soon.
Emily: Boy, that Dick Clark sure looks good for his age huh?

And now, a few "real" questions to excite all the Fonda fans...

Splendid: Having read your bios, it seems to me that the members of Fonda have better-than-average "day" jobs -- or at least jobs that are more enjoyable than the standard waiting-tables oeuvre. If that's indeed the case, how has it changed your attitude towards making music?

Emily: Up until recently I had a day job that I was miserable in. I just quit to write screenplays. Now that I'm trying to do my own thing, follow my dream, it will be easier to focus on our music. I have more time to spend on things that matter to me - like being creative, writing songs. Who knows what will happen but I feel happy that I'm giving it a shot.

Dave: My day job just ended at the beginning of summer, too. I got laid off and it's been the best thing that could ever have happened. I finally found the time to mix our album and do things like compose music for my friends' films, but now the severance checks have stopped coming and it's time to start looking for another job. None of us in the band have any delusions about being rock stars or anything, so we just kind of look at it as a hobby. I think if you take it more seriously than that, you start trying to do things that you wouldn't normally do. We love recording and playing live but unfortunately we're past the stage in our lives where we are going to live out of a van for a year, so we do what we want.

Splendid: Got any plans to tour extensively in support of The Invisible Girl? If so, when and where?

Dave: In the New Year, we're going to play the West Coast and maybe head out into the Southwest again. But that's dependent on a few things. Everyone's day jobs may dictate what we do. We'll probably go out a week at a time and use up all our vacation days (that's if I even have a job by that time). It's hard to organize those things and vans are expensive to rent. We'll see.

Splendid: Why the hell weren't you guys on the "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" soundtrack instead of the crap that was? You'd have been perfect. Who do we need to write to to "fix" that for the next movie?

Emily: I blame Mini-Me.
Dave: Me too. Write to New Line Cinema's music department and tell them they made a big mistake.

Splendid: What's your favorite song on The Invisible Girl, and why?

Emily: "The Young Lovers". It's just my favourite to sing; I usually cringe listening to myself but I can get through this one without feeling like I'm hopeless and should just stop right NOW! I love that it's a bit of a story song - it was inspired by all those great old exploitation moves with words like "mondo" in the titles...
Dave: "The People We Are" is my personal favorite. It was sort of inspired by Jacque Demy's film The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. It's about breaking up with someone who you were in love with and then running into them years later and pondering what could have happened if you stayed together. Yes, these are the issues that concern Fonda.

Splendid: Between The Invisible Girl and your steadily increasing presence on compilations, Fonda is a growing phenomenon. What are your plans for becoming a household name in 2000?

Dave: We're gonna keep on truckin'. I want to record the next album as soon as possible 'cause I have all the songs written and recording is the fun part. Dave, our guitar player, suggested we rent a house in Palm Springs and spend a week recording there. We can spend mornings by the pool and after a few wine coolers, we can start tracking the drums...
Emily: Please buy our record. I am unemployed.

Thanks, Dave and Emily!
