A novelty act, a misfire and a waste of time, Electric Six rest lazily astride the current wave of retro-rock that claims to be preaching the gospel of Detroit garage. Preachers these guys ain't. Recycling sounds, striking stale poses and offending the intelligence of listeners seems to be what Electric Six work hard at doing best. "Electric Demons In Love" sounds like Tom Jones's failed attempt at a nu-metal comeback -- it's painfully awful and it should have been painfully clear to the group that this sort of charge would be levied against them. "Gay Bar" is too dumb for words, while "Danger! High Voltage" is little more than a half-hearted riff backed up by the praise of despicable hipsters. And while I generally applaud the XL crowd for the choices and their conviction, Electric Six and the "effort" displayed on Fire leaves me looking for a box of matches so I can burn the whole dastardly thing to the ground.
