Irving Klaw Trio   Deceptively calling themselves a trio, this quartet of musicians isn't your regular "noise-band" with a ridiculous schtick to get them through too many tracks on a poorly laid-out CD. What Le Klaw Trio provides is a variety of genres and styles, including Klezmer, latin-jazz and 70's bad ass motherfucker disco that all cohesively mesh into a refreshingly entertaining CD that looks as good as it sounds. The whiny saxophone (that almost sounds like a clarinet) of "Jizzo the Clown" may draw upon those deep-rooted Ashkenazi feelings within you, but the poppy bass lines and boppier piano interjections reroute everything back to the good ol' U.S. of A. With sitar and drumbek, "Dr. S. Balachander" launches into another barrage of eastern rhythms in a vein similar to the Sun City Girls -- bizarre and atmospheric, yet handled capably enough to produce authenticity. Effervescing in this melting pot of cultures is "Honduran Death Boat," which has robotic sounding Spanish phrases sprayed over a plodding rhythm that alternates between calm and boisterous seizures. You'd be correcto mundo in stating that the Klaw is all over the musical map. You'd also be equally rico smarte if you got your manos on it pronto.
