Terabithia
Their name taken from the title of a children's book, these four lads have a firm grasp on the necessary elements of indie-pop rock. Terabithia forgoes the slick frills of production on Yes, I am... and instead wisely chooses to bare its raw and naked musical soul. This soul searching is packaged as a quick jaunt through six tracks which are heavy on droning, clean guitar chords and chock full o' hummable melodies. Powerful like a tightly coiled spring, yet fluffy enough not to cause any potential head traumas, this young quartet has a keen sense of musical understanding and instrumental precision that many older groups are still desperately trying to locate. The staple song of this six song EP has to be "Harbour" with its lush, bouncy guitar and chorus that provides almost immediate gratification to the auditory channels. The final track, "Yes, I Am" couples an endearing guitar line with thick, extraneous effects, placing a confusing, overly-noisy cap on the EP. It's interesting, but out of place. Overall, Terabithia shows its knack for pop sensibility and catchy-riff prowess, resulting in some true songwriting gems. Where's the full length?
